Peripheral Neuropathy & Pain Management
Innovative Neuropathy Treatment Institute is a Phoenix based chronic pain clinic. We speciaize in complex and difficult to treat conditions. We offer comprehensive options through multi-disciplinary care models tailored to each patients’ specific needs, including access to medical marijuana and Cannabidiol.
For long-suffering neuropathy patients, finding the path to improving their condition can be filled with detours, bumps, switchbacks and, sometimes, even U-turns. But

Electrical Stimulation Therapy
Electrical signal therapy is a form of neuropathy treatment used for pain relief and to accelerate healing. It uses both low and high level electric frequencies to provide prolonged pain relief. Patients generally report the procedure as non-painful with immediate benefits. Objective studies have shown measurable improvement in motor and sensory nerves.
Our office can offer topical pain patches and custom topical medications for pain relief, available through our on-site pharmacy. Topical formulations are a great option for localized pain and offer many advantages. These include ease of application, less fluctuation of drug levels, efficiency at a lower dose, ability to be site-specific and avoidance of some of the risks of oral medications, such as drug-drug interactions and systemic side effects. Our on-site dispensing saves patients time and energy.
Diet, Nutrition & Supplements
In some cases, nerve pain can be worsened — or even caused — by certain vitamin deficiencies. The right combination of over the counter supplements can have a profound effect on your pain. Our office offers a variety of nutrition and supplements for nerve pain and more.
In some cases, neuropathy symptoms and muscle weakness can be improved through a surgical release of the affected nerves. These superimposed nerve entrapments occur frequently with patients that have symptoms of neuropathic pain. The surgery opens the tight area through which the affected nerve passes, reducing pressure and increasing blood flow.
We specialize in the use of amniotic tissue, the most powerful form of medicine available today to promote the regeneration of healthy tissue. Conditions treated included heel pain and arthritis of the knee and other joints.
Amniotic tissue contains growth factors, which promote cellular proliferation and new collagen formation and also minimize scar tissue formation. Amniotic Tissue also contains Amniotic Epithelial Cells and Amniotic Mesenchymal Stem Cells, which are capable of self-renewal and self-differentiation and help “kick-start” the healing process. In addition to these renewal properties, amniotic tissue can help minimize inflammation, a major source of pain during the healing and tissue repair process. Amniotic tissues are immune-privileged and rarely evoke an immune response in the human body.
IV Infusion Therapies
Infusion therapies can provide a great kick-start to sustained pain relief. Our office specializes in Alpha Lipoic Acid Infusion, a natural and powerful antioxidant which has been shown to directly improve nerve conduction and nerve blood flow, and increase ATPase activity, which may improve symptoms in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy by preventing sensory nerve degeneration.
In Type 2 diabetics, IV ALA has also been shown to improve insulin-stimulated glucose uptake by as much as 50%, with no changes in fasting blood sugar or insulin levels.
Medical Marijuana Recommendations
There is more and more evidence for the positive effects of cannabinoids as effective medicine to treat many cases of chronic pain and other conditions. Medical marijuana, as a chronic pain management tool, can reduce patients’ pain and improve quality of life, with reported less side effects than those associated with the use of some pharmaceutical pain relievers.
Dr. Stephen Barrett has been recognized as a leader and pioneer in the study and treatment of Heel Pain. Heel pain may be caused by many different factors ranging from simple mechanical plantar fasciitis (fasciopathy) to complex metabolic diseases such as Reiter’s syndrome. Most heel pain is related to the plantar fascia, but many times the patient is mistakenly diagnosed, or has an additional masked pathology such as a nerve entrapment. Our advanced diagnostic modalities will pinpoint the causes and can grade the degree of tissue degeneration, when present, to ensure the most effective treatment options.
